How to Market on LinkedIn Using Video Ads

Video ads are a Sponsored Content ad format that displays in the LinkedIn feed. You can sponsor posts with videos from your LinkedIn Page or you can create new video ads within Campaign Manager. Video ads created within Campaign Manager are known as Direct Sponsored Content. Learn more about the difference between Sponsored Content and Direct Sponsored Content.

You must have a Page associated with your ad account to create carousel image ads. You’ll also need both of the following permissions:

  1. A user role of Creative Manager or higher in the Campaign Manager account

  2. Sponsored Content Poster access or higher on the Page

Only Designated Page Admins can disable, delete, or reply to comments as the Page on the ad.

Follow these steps to create a new video ad campaign:

Sign in and create a campaign and campaign group

  1. Choose your advertising objective and define your audience

  2. Create a budget, schedule, and bid

  3. Add creatives and attach an optional Lead Gen Form

  4. Review & Launch your campaign

Choose your advertising objective and define your audience

  1. Select from the following objectives for your campaign:

    1. Brand awareness

    2. Website visits

    3. Engagement

    4. Video views

    5. Lead generation

    6. Website conversions

  2. Define your target audience in the Audience section.

    1. Create your target audience by selecting the targeting facets. Learn more about targeting options and the targeting flow in the Objective-Based experience.

    2. To apply a previously saved targeting template, click the Saved audiences  dropdown in the Audience section.

    3. You may apply Matched Audiences, which allows you to upload company or contact lists or retarget based on website visits or ad engagement. Learn more about Matched Audiences.

  3. Select Video ad from the Ad format section.

  4. Depending on your objective and ad format, you may see that the checkbox next to Enable the LinkedIn Audience Network the Placement section is enabled. Learn more about LinkedIn Audience Network.

Create a budget, schedule, and bid

  1. Complete the Budget & Schedule and Bid sections. Learn how to set a bid, budget, and schedule.

  2. Add optional Conversion Tracking. Learn how to set up conversion tracking.

  3. Click Next and Save from the Confirm save popup.

Add creatives and attach an optional Lead Gen Form

  1. Choose Browse existing content or Create new ad from the Ads in this campaign section.

  2. For Browse existing content, click the checkbox to the left of the creative and click the Sponsor button in the top right of the page.

    1. When browsing through existing content, you can also delete Direct Sponsored Content video ads by selecting the checkbox to the left of the ad and clicking the  Trash icon above the search bar. Once an ad has been deleted, the action cannot be reversed. Learn more about deleting Direct Sponsored Content.

    2. LinkedIn Page posts won’t be available to select as a video ad if they contain a document, Pulse article link, or a video link from third-party site (like YouTube or Vimeo). Learn more about the specifications for video ads.

  3. To create a new ad, click Create new ad button, complete the fields, and click Create.

    1. Refer to our video ad specs for details on supported video sizes, destination URL guidelines, and more. Once the video has been uploaded, it will show you an approximate time left before it’s finished processing.

      1. Once you’ve added a creative to a campaign, it can’t be deleted. If you don’t want the creative attached to your campaign, you must delete the draft campaign and create a new one.

      2. To upload an .SRT format file for video captions, click the Upload file button. Note: Only English video captions are supported at this time.

  4. If you chose the Lead Generation objective, you’ll need to attach a form to your ad.

    1. If you created a new ad, click the Form details section. Select a Call-to-action and Form from the dropdown menus. You can select an existing Lead Gen Form or create a new form.

    2. If you browsed existing content to select an ad, click Associate a Lead Gen Form to complete the Form details section. Learn more about creating Lead Gen Forms.

  5. Click Next.

Review and launch your campaign

  1. Make sure all your campaign details and settings are correct.

  2. To change or make edits to any section, click Previous button at the bottom of the page.

  3. Click Launch Campaign button near the top right or at the bottom of the page. Your ad will start serving once it’s approved.
