Instagram Video Ads Best Practices

When creating video content for Instagram Ads, it is important to follow best practices with regard to the video format. Note that Instagram video ads display alongside regular Instagram videos in the feed and in Stories. Therefore, the length and specs are the same for ads as for regular videos.

Instagram Feed Video Length And Specs

Videos in the Instagram feed can be up to 1-minute long. You will be able to upload videos that are longer than a minute. However, you’ll need to select a 1-minute section to share in the feed.

The full specs for Instagram feed videos are as follows:

  • Size: 4GB maximum

  • File format: .MOV and .MP4 recommended (all accepted file types)

  • Length: 1 minute maximum

  • Minimum width: 500 pixels

  • Ratios: 1:1 for square (600 x 600 recommended), 1.9:1 for horizontal (600 x 315 recommended, 4:5 for in-feed vertical (600 x 750 recommended)

Instagram Story Video Length And Specs

Note that vertical videos in the feed are not the same aspect ratio as vertical videos in IG Stories. Instagram Story videos are taller, as they take up the full screen of a mobile device.

The full specs for Instagram Stories are:

  • Length: Maximum length of 15 seconds per Story, though you can split a longer video into several Stories

  • File format: .MOV and .MP4 recommended

  • Recommended size: 1080 x 1920 pixels

  • Minimum size: 600 x 1067 pixels
